Market Cap
Market Cap = Current Price x Circulating Supply
Refers to the total market value of a cryptocurrency’s circulating supply. It is similar to the stock market’s measurement of multiplying price per share by shares readily available in the market (not held & locked by insiders, governments) Read More |

Market Cap / FDV
The proportion of current market capitalization compares to market capitalization when meeting max supply.
The closer the Mkt Cap/FDV to 1, the closer the current market capitalization to its fully diluted valuation and vice versa. Learn more about Mkt Cap/FDV here. |

Fully Diluted Valuation
Fully Diluted Valuation (FDV) = Current Price x Total Supply
Fully Diluted Valuation (FDV) is the theoretical market capitalization of a coin if the entirety of its supply is in circulation, based on its current market price. The FDV value is theoretical as increasing the circulating supply of a coin may impact its market price. Also depending on the tokenomics, emission schedule or lock-up period of a coin's supply, it may take a significant time before its entire supply is released into circulation. ZKsync (ZK) TL;DR
-
ZKsync is a Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution for Ethereum that uses zero-knowledge rollup technology to deliver near-instant transactions and near-zero fees while maintaining Ethereum's security.
-
Uses advanced cryptographic proofs to bundle thousands of transactions off-chain before settling them on Ethereum (now capable of over 15,000 TPS post-Atlas upgrade).
-
Powers an expanding network of interconnected ZK chains called the Elastic Network that enables seamless interoperability.
-
Governed by ZK Nation, a decentralized community where token holders can vote on protocol upgrades and ecosystem initiatives.
What Is ZKsync
ZKsync attempts to address Ethereum's two most pressing challenges: high transaction fees and slow speeds. By leveraging zero-knowledge rollup technology, ZKsync processes transactions off the Ethereum mainnet and bundles them into batches before submitting cryptographic validity proofs back to the Layer 1 (Ethereum). This approach allows the protocol to deliver transaction costs as low as $0.0001 per transaction, with the capacity to handle over 15,000 transactions per second (TPS) following its October 2025 “Atlas” upgrade. The Atlas upgrade notably also introduces 1-second finality, ensuring transactions are confirmed nearly instantaneously.
Key Differentiators of ZKsync
-
Zero-Knowledge Proofs: Uses advanced cryptographic validity proofs (SNARKs) to verify transactions rather than relying on optimistic assumptions or additional validators, providing immediate finality.
-
EVM Compatibility: Fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing developers to deploy existing Solidity and Vyper smart contracts with minimal modifications.
-
Native Account Abstraction: Built-in account abstraction enables gasless transactions and allows users to pay fees in ERC20 tokens like USDC instead of ETH.
-
Elastic Network Architecture: Operates as a network of interconnected ZK chains with shared security through a unified bridge contract on Ethereum Layer 1, enabling seamless cross-chain interactions.
-
Custom Base Tokens: Chains built with ZK Stack can use any ERC20 token as the base currency for gas fees, not just ETH.
-
Open Source Commitment: Fully open-sourced under MIT license, promoting transparency and enabling anyone to build, audit, or fork the technology.
What Can You Use ZK Token For?
-
Protocol Governance: Vote on ZKsync Improvement Proposals that upgrade the protocol, including changes to smart contracts and core infrastructure.
-
Token Program Allocation: Participate in Token Program Proposals that distribute ZK tokens to ecosystem initiatives aligned with the ZK Credo.
-
Governance Advisory: Vote on off-chain governance decisions through Governance Advisory Proposals.
-
Network Fees: Pay for transaction fees on ZKsync chains using native account abstraction features.
-
Delegation: Delegate voting power to representatives who actively participate in governance decisions on your behalf.
-
Proposed Economic Utility (November 2025): A major governance proposal introduced by co-founder Alex Gluchowski aims to add direct value accrual to the ZK token. If passed by ZK Nation, this would use all network revenue (from on-chain fees and off-chain enterprise licensing) to fund a combination of token buybacks, token burns, and staking rewards for ZK holders.
How Does ZKsync Work?
ZKsync operates as a Layer 2 (L2) rollup that moves computation off the Ethereum mainnet while keeping all transaction data available for verification. When users submit transactions, ZKsync processes them off-chain through its node implementation, which maintains the Layer 2 state. Once processed, these verified transaction data are posted to Ethereum Layer 1 as calldata or blobs, depending on what is most cost-effective.
The system uses two main components: the execution layer called ZKsync OS and the proof aggregation chain called ZKsync Gateway. This architecture allows thousands of transactions to be verified on Ethereum with a single proof, drastically reducing costs while maintaining security.
ZKsync's Notable Investors and Team
In total, Matter Labs, the company behind ZKsync, has raised $458 million in total funding. Notable investors include Blockchain Capital, Dragonfly, Andreessen Horowitz, Blockchain.com, Crypto.com, Consensys, Bybit, OKEx and founders from prominent DeFi projects including Aave, Curve, Lido, Gnosis and Uniswap.
The founding team includes Alex Gluchowski, co-founder and CEO, who holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from Berlin Institute of Technology and has over 15 years of software engineering experience. Alexander Vlasov serves as co-founder and brings expertise in nuclear physics and electrical engineering with a focus on zero-knowledge proof systems.
The leadership team includes Nana Murugesan as President, who previously served as Vice President of International and Business Development at Coinbase. In September 2024, Matter Labs underwent a 16% workforce reduction, described as a strategic 'subtraction' to streamline operations and accelerate the transition to the decentralized ZK Nation.
Tokenomics: Vesting Periods and Token Distribution
The ZK token has a maximum supply cap of 21 billion tokens. Rather than minting all tokens at launch, ZKsync uses a capped minter system that enables just-in-time minting, reducing treasury risks and giving administrators flexibility in token distribution timing.
Token Distribution:
-
17.5% - Community Airdrop: One-time distribution to 695,232 wallets with no lockup periods, which was fully liquid from day one.
-
17.2% - Investors: Subject to vesting schedule
-
16.1% - Matter Labs Team: Subject to vesting schedule
-
19.9% - ZKsync Foundation: Administers ecosystem initiatives supporting protocol growth
-
29.3% - Token Assembly: Governed by community through Token Program Proposals, not held in capped minters but controlled by governance
Vesting Schedule: Investor and team allocations have a 4-year unlock period (June 2024 - June 2028), including a one-year cliff. In June 2025, the 1-year cliff passed and 3.6% of the total supply unlocked from team and investor allocations. After June 2025, a maximum of 0.8% of token supply unlocks monthly until June 2028. The community airdrop claim window closed on January 3, 2025. Unclaimed airdrop tokens from that window were added to the Token Assembly allocation to be distributed via governance proposals.
The token supply can be increased through protocol governance upgrades approved by the community, demonstrating the system's commitment to decentralized decision-making.
