Fully Diluted Valuation
Fully Diluted Valuation (FDV) = Current Price x Total Supply
Fully Diluted Valuation (FDV) is the theoretical market capitalization of a coin if the entirety of its supply is in circulation, based on its current market price. The FDV value is theoretical as increasing the circulating supply of a coin may impact its market price. Also depending on the tokenomics, emission schedule or lock-up period of a coin's supply, it may take a significant time before its entire supply is released into circulation. About XRP
XRP is a decentralized digital asset designed for high-performance global payments and efficient asset exchange on the XRP Ledger Layer 1 network.
-
It enables near-instant cross-border settlements that finalize (permanently record) in 3 to 5 seconds.
-
The network uses a consensus protocol (agreement on transaction order) instead of energy-intensive mining to secure transactions.
-
Its primary function is to act as a bridge between different fiat currencies to lower liquidity (asset availability) costs.
What Is XRP
XRP is the native token of the XRP Ledger, a decentralized, open-source blockchain. Its main value proposition is providing a fast, cost-effective alternative to traditional banking systems for moving value across borders. The token is put to work by facilitating currency swaps and protecting the network from spam by requiring a small amount of XRP to be burned (destroyed) for every transaction. As the ecosystem grows and more institutions use the ledger for settlement, the asset serves as a bridge to provide liquidity for a wider range of global currency pairs.
What Is the Difference Between XRP, XRP Ledger, Ripple, and Ripple Network?
-
XRP is the native token and the ticker symbol of the XRP Ledger
-
XRP Ledger is the distributed consensus ledger
-
Ripple (formerly known as Ripple Labs) is the company behind Ripple Network
-
Ripple Network is a global network payment built on top of the XRP Ledger
What Makes XRP Unique
-
Federated Consensus: Unlike most blockchains, it does not use Proof of Work or Proof of Stake. Trusted nodes agree on transaction order through a unique consensus method.
-
Native Decentralized Exchange: The ledger features a built-in exchange (a platform for trading without intermediaries) that allows for the automated trading of any tokenized asset.
-
Speed and Scalability: The network handles a sustained throughput of 1,500 transactions per second (TPS) with 3–5 second finality.
What Can You Use XRP for?
-
Bridge Asset: It acts as a neutral liquidity tool to move value between two different fiat currencies without requiring pre-funded accounts.
-
Spam Prevention: A tiny portion of XRP is burned during each transaction to prevent malicious actors from overloading the network.
-
Inventory Collateral: Financial institutions use the asset as collateral (an asset held to secure a trade) to access traditional markets and manage digital asset infrastructure.
How Does XRP (Ripple) Work?
The XRP Ledger maintains its integrity through the XRP Ledger Consensus Protocol. Unlike Bitcoin, which relies on "probabilistic finality" (waiting for more blocks), XRPL achieves "deterministic finality."
-
The UNL (Unique Node List): Each participant (server) chooses a specific set of trusted validators, known as a Unique Node List. These nodes are trusted not to collude against the network.
-
Iterative Slating: Transactions are collected into a "candidate set." Validators share their sets and vote on which transactions are valid.
-
The 80% Threshold: Through several rounds of communication, the candidate sets are refined. A transaction is only permanently recorded (closed in a ledger) once it receives a supermajority of at least 80% agreement from the UNL.
-
The Burn Mechanism: To prevent Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, every transaction "burns" a tiny amount of XRP (the base fee). This cost increases if the network is under heavy load, making spam economically impossible.
Team Info and Investors
Ripple was first started in 2004 by Ryan Fugger, who developed the first version of Ripple, called RipplePay. Chris is currently the Executive Chairman of Ripple. Notable investors and partners include major financial institutions, though the network itself remains open-source and decentralized.
